Electrical Engineer

As an electrical engineer, Adam is working in the largest sector in engineering. He has a bachelor's degree and has qualified as a Professional Engineer. He could have chosen to work in any industry that builds electronic devices, or in electricity generation and distribution. He is currently employed by an electronics company that builds a number of different devices, including cameras and cell phones. He is responsible for designing the power circuits and making sure that they work efficiently.

Adam is in his office by eight o' clock. He usually keeps normal office hours. His first task of the day is to check his emails and make some phone calls. He spends about an hour replying to queries and talking to other engineers who he is working with, and then goes to a team meeting about a new circuit that is being designed to increase energy efficiency. It will be used in cell phones to help prolong battery life.

After the meeting, Adam returns to his office and works on some designs. He has been making some refinements to a camera that has had problems with overheating. He is rearranging the electrical circuits to try to prevent this from happening. Once he has a good design, he will build a simulation prototype to test it out. If anything goes wrong, it will be up to Adam to figure out why.

Adam goes to lunch with some other members of the department, and they discuss some upcoming projects. There are usually a number of ongoing projects as they work for a large company that produces many different electrical devices. Adam enjoys the intellectual challenges of his work, and being able to work on innovative new technologies.

During the afternoon, Adam goes to a meeting that includes all of the company's electrical engineers. They meet every day to discuss the progress of their current projects. Once a week, Adam meets with his superiors to update them on the work that is being done. He also has to meet with colleagues from the marketing and accounting departments to discuss the new designs created by his team.
